1- What is the medium of instruction, and does the curriculum include any courses taught in English?

The medium of instruction for our Faculty’s undergraduate program has been updated so that 30% of the curriculum is delivered in English, effective from the 2025–2026 Academic Year. This change aims to enable our students to express themselves effectively in international settings and to acquire a well-rounded legal education. Accordingly, the current curriculum includes both compulsory and elective courses taught in English.

3- Is there a compulsory foreign language preparatory program?

Foreign language preparatory education is compulsory in our Faculty’s undergraduate program. Students who are admitted to our Faculty are required to take the foreign language exemption examination held at the beginning of the academic year. Students who successfully pass the exemption examination are entitled to commence the first year of the undergraduate program directly, whereas students who fail to meet the required level of achievement are enrolled in the compulsory foreign language preparatory program.

4- Is attendance compulsory for courses previously taken and failed or retaken for the purpose of improving the grade?

5- How is course registration carried out?

Course registration is carried out directly by students through BİLSİS (Student Information System) during the course registration week announced in the academic calendar. After paying any applicable tuition or contribution fees, students select the courses and relevant sections they wish to take through the system and create their course schedules. The progression rule must be observed during this process. Accordingly, priority must be given to compulsory courses from previous semesters that have either been failed or not previously taken. Students are also required to comply with the credit limits prescribed for the relevant semester. Course registrations created through BİLSİS become final only after approval by the relevant academic advisor.

6- If I make an incorrect selection during course registration, will I have an opportunity to correct it later?

Following the completion of course registration, changes to courses and course sections may be made during the “add-drop” week announced in the academic calendar. Such changes become effective only upon the formal approval of the student’s academic advisor.

7- Are courses offered on a semester basis or an annual basis?

Education and instruction at our Faculty are organised on a semester basis. Each academic year consists of two semesters: fall and spring. Courses included in the curriculum are completed within the semester in which they commence, and academic performance is assessed at the end of each semester. Courses in which a student is unsuccessful must be retaken in the following semester in which the relevant course is offered.

8- How can I appeal an examination result or grade?

The right to appeal examination results and grades is limited solely to the review of clerical or calculation errors. Applications must be submitted within seven (7) business days following the deadline specified in the academic calendar for the submission of examination results to the Registrar’s Office. Students are required to apply to the Student Affairs Office of our Faculty with a written petition within this period.

9- Are courses at the Faculty assessed using a grading curve or an absolute grading system?

The absolute grading system is used in the assessment and evaluation processes for all courses offered by our Faculty. Accordingly, students’ letter grades are determined solely on the basis of the absolute equivalents of the numerical grades they individually obtain, independently of the overall performance level of the class or the grades received by other students.

10- What are the assessment criteria for courses offered by the Faculty?

Pursuant to the provisions of the Hacettepe University Regulation on Associate Degree and Undergraduate Education and Examinations, each course must include at least one midterm examination during the relevant semester and a final examination at the end of the semester. Under the applicable regulations, the contribution of the final examination to the overall course grade must be no less than 40% and no more than 60%. The exact percentages are determined by the instructor responsible for the course and announced in the course information package. In addition, depending on the curriculum and nature of the course, assignments, projects, and similar alternative assessment methods may also be incorporated into the evaluation process. For most law courses offered by our Faculty, the assessment is generally based on a 40% contribution from the midterm examination and a 60% contribution from the final examination.

11- What requirements must be met to successfully complete a course?

As a rule, the assessment of law courses included in our Faculty’s curriculum is based on one midterm examination, contributing 40% to the course grade, and one final examination, contributing 60%. To successfully complete a course, students must obtain both a weighted average of at least 50 points, calculated on the basis of their midterm and final examination grades, and a final examination grade of at least 50 points.

12- Under what conditions are students eligible to take the resit examination?

Students whose course grade at the end of the relevant semester is recorded as “F2” (students who are eligible to take the final examination but do not attend it) or “F3” (students who attend the final examination but fail the course) are entitled to take the resit examination. However, students whose course grade is recorded as “F1” because they have lost their right to take the examination due to non-attendance are not admitted to either the final or the resit examination for the relevant course.

13- What options are available if a student fails an elective course?

Under the applicable education and examination regulations, students who fail an elective course have two options. They may register for and retake the failed elective course in a subsequent semester in which it is offered. Alternatively, they may exercise their right to “withdraw from the course.” Where a student withdraws from a course, the relevant course cannot subsequently be added back to the student’s course registration; however, it will remain recorded on the academic transcript. Students may withdraw from a maximum of three (3) elective courses during their undergraduate education.

14- Can students participate in Double Major or Minor Programs during their studies at the Faculty?

Students enrolled in our undergraduate law program are entitled to apply for and participate in minor programs, provided that they meet the prescribed academic requirements. 15- What are the minimum requirements for graduation?

To be eligible to graduate from the undergraduate program of the Faculty of Law, students must fulfil the following minimum academic requirements:

• Successful completion of at least 150 local credits and 240 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits.
• Completion of at least 30% of the total ECTS credits, corresponding to a minimum of 72 ECTS credits, through courses taught in English.
• A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00 out of 4.00 at the time of graduation.

16- What are the requirements for attaining Honor Student or High Honor Student status?

Among the students who successfully complete all courses prescribed in our Faculty’s undergraduate program, those with a cumulative grade point average between 3.00 and 3.49 out of 4.00 are entitled to the title of “Honor Student,” while those with a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or above are entitled to the title of “High Honor Student.” This academic distinction is officially indicated on the student’s diploma upon graduation.

17- Could you provide information about the Entrance Examination for Legal Professions (HMGS)?

The Entrance Examination for Legal Professions (HMGS) is a preliminary qualifying examination administered by the Measurement, Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM) to enable graduates of faculties of law to enter the relevant legal professions. Passing this examination is a statutory requirement for graduates to commence their legal traineeship or apply for the examinations for assistant judges and prosecutors. Candidates must obtain a minimum score of 70 out of 100 to be considered successful.

18- What access facilities are available for the Faculty library and legal databases?

Our Faculty has its own fully equipped library, located on Level -2 of the main Faculty building on the Beytepe Campus.

• Physical Facilities: The library occupies a total area of 1,310 square metres across two floors and has a seating capacity of 225. The upper floor is designated as a study hall. Scanners and computers are also available for use by researchers.
• Printed Collection: Our current physical collection consists of 11,000 printed books in the field of law and 29 periodical titles transferred from the Beytepe Central Library.
• Electronic Resources: Online access to a wide range of legal databases containing e-journals, e-books, electronic reference resources, and electronic theses is available through the University’s official library portal at library.hacettepe.edu.tr.

19- Where is the Faculty located, and what transportation options are available?

Our Faculty conducts its educational activities in a fully equipped, independent building allocated exclusively to the Faculty within the Beytepe Campus.

• Campus Facilities: Beytepe Campus, one of Türkiye’s largest and greenest university campuses in terms of area, offers extensive social and physical facilities, including a stadium, tennis courts, indoor basketball and volleyball courts, an Olympic-size swimming pool, various sports halls and artificial-turf pitches, as well as dining halls, student dormitories, and the Beytepe Campus Outpatient Clinic, which provides healthcare services to our students. Transportation within the campus is continuously supported by shuttle services.
• Transportation Options: The campus can be reached by EGO municipal bus routes and by transfer services operating from Beytepe Station on the M2 line of the Ankara Metro. In addition, the University provides a regular internal shuttle service between the Beytepe and Sıhhiye campuses.

20- Are there student dormitories on the campus where the Faculty is located?

Various student dormitories are available within the Beytepe Campus, where our Faculty is located, to meet the accommodation needs of our students. Students may benefit from these on-campus accommodation facilities.
